Barking Dog Studio or Barking Dog Music is a project studio I run for creating voice overs and original music, and sometimes I hire myself out to other musicians to help record their own stuff- but I'm going to admit something here. The "studio" is little more than a separate room in the house with a good computer, a few microphones, heaps of software and a large dollop of expertise- that's me. I've been writing and recording music for a long time, and I've written books and a heap of articles on the subject. Soon I'll add a page about my Guerrilla Guide to Recording that's been distributed by Alchemedia Publishing. Right now, things are even more minimal, because we're renting a house while we build a new one (which will have a custom-built office for music and writing books), so if you're thinking of Abbey Road when I say "studio", forget it. Which isn't to say that if you want to do some recording something can't be arranged... here in Bridgetown every man AND his dog has a studio I could could probably borrow.
When I first started promoting my music on the internet it was tricky to provide tunes and downloads. Now, of course, everything is different and it's in my immediate plans to start uploading my songs for people to hear on this page. I doubt that I'll sell them... they're more a promotional thing for my writing. Influences? Sting, Toto, Seal, Spock's Beard... there's a million musical influences in my head. Think 80's and 90's rock, really.
I play as a solo musician and in a three-piece band around the region. Our basic ambition is to drink lots of beer and have a good time. The picture below is myself and the lads, Pete and James, rehearsing our music and- again -consuming a lot of home-brew beer. The neighbours have nothing to worry about- Metallica or Deep Purple won't be dropping by soon. We don't actually make much noise (we're all too old for that stuff anymore). We'll keep doing it while it feels good. Hey, the Rolling Stones are all in their 60's right?
This is myself hiding in the corner being some kind of "musical director" on guitar while Pete Bowden sings and James Davies plays the harp.
